Webinar Offers Energy-Saving Architectural Solutions

Hosted By Alcoa, Kawneer and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

NEW YORK--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that an upcoming webinar co-sponsored by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Alcoa’s Kawneer architectural aluminum products business will provide architects and building contractors with insights and strategies for designing high performance buildings using energy efficient architectural solutions.

The webinar, “Energy-Saving Architectural Solutions for High-Performance Buildings,” will take place on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 12 noon ET. Participation is free for all architects, building contractors and media.

Steve Selkowitz, head of the Building Technologies Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will discuss the potential for savings using different energy efficient fenestration technologies and systems and how these technologies help architects meet energy saving requirements and contribute to sustainable design.

Eddie Bugg, Director of Sustainable Solutions for Kawneer, will discuss the role that recyclable architectural aluminum products play in helping meet energy efficiency and LEED certification goals.

“We are looking forward to dialogue on energy saving architectural tools and systems for commercial and institutional buildings. More than 40 percent of the energy consumed in the U.S. is used by buildings, and with the stimulus package funding the renovation of government buildings into green buildings, we believe the information provided today will offer valuable insight into designing high-performance buildings,” said Bugg.

Highlights of this interactive session include:
  • How design solutions using glazing/shading that capture daylight advantages contribute to high-performance buildings.
  • Energy efficient building technologies focusing on architectural aluminum systems, such as windows, curtain wall, and sun control products, play a role in designing sustainable buildings.
  • Optimizing energy savings in specific climate zones by using various combinations of architectural aluminum products and systems.
