Alcoa Pro Series Wheel Debuts in Protruck Series Competition at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Challenge

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Baja racing legend and Protruck visionary, Ivan “Ironman” Stewart today announced Alcoa Pro Series wheels, the same wheel that consumers can purchase through their local Alcoa retailer, to be used in competition by all Protruck teams at the historic Pikes Peak Hill Climb Challenge to be held in Colorado Springs, CO on Saturday, July 21, 2007.

As the Official Wheel of the Protruck Off Road Race Series, Alcoa continues to work closely with Protruck to provide optimal wheels for teams at each event. “Alcoa forged aluminum Classic wheels have demonstrated strength throughout the season, including the Baja 1000 and most recently at the Baja 500,” said Stewart. “The Alcoa product development team has worked hard to bring their new seventeen-inch Pro Series wheel to Pikes Peak.”

“We are proud to provide our seventeen-inch Pro Series wheel as an ideal fitment for the unique and grueling demands of Pikes Peak,” said Brandon Stotsenburg, Director of Automotive Aftermarket, Alcoa Forged Specialty Wheels. “Pro Series offers the strength and durability of an Alcoa one-piece forged alloy wheel to Protruck drivers. Alcoa has now made the same wheel available for consumers at their local Alcoa retailer.”

Participation in Protruck allows Alcoa to validate strength and durability testing by working closely with Protruck to provide the strongest wheel available for all of their diverse performance needs. Alcoa one-piece forged alloy wheels offer unmatched strength and durability while reducing weight as compared to multi-piece, cast and steel wheels. Forging aligns the metal grain in a uniform direction along the contours of the wheel, further increasing strength. In addition, light weight wheel strength lowers the vehicle’s unsprung weight, allowing faster suspension response, a smoother ride and improved traction when cornering. Pro Series wheels by Alcoa are expected to increase Protruck competition as they tackle the 156-turn course at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Alcoa recently launched Pro Series, combined with their Adventure Series wheel line, to the automotive aftermarket. Pro Series offers a competition-inspired design while Adventure Series provides a contemporary split-spoke design to complement today’s vehicles. Each wheel is forged from one-piece of 6061-T6 aluminum and manufactured to exceed OEM standards.

With a manufacturers suggestion retail price (MSRP) starting at $409 per wheel, Pro Series and Adventure Series wheels fit most one-half ton light trucks, full size SUVs and Jeeps®. Seventeen-inch and twenty-inch applications in premium chrome or polished clearcoat finish options are available. As with all Alcoa forged alloy wheels, Pro Series and Adventure Series wheels carry a lifetime limited structural warranty.

Alcoa worked closely with Yokohama, the official tire of the Protruck Off Road Race Series, to provide a seventeen-inch wheel and tire package for the Pikes Peak event. The new package is ideal for increasing competition at the Pikes Peak event and both companies look forward to offering the new package at select future Protruck events.
