Alcoa Initiates New Awards Program for Truckload Carriers
Announces Winners of 2006 Tier 1 Core Carrier Awards
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today the results of its inaugural Tier 1 Core
Carrier Awards Program. The program was created to recognize the 12
members of this select group of U.S. truckload carriers for their
outstanding commitment and service to Alcoa in 2006. Further recognition
for the leading performers in this group was also announced yesterday in
Knoxville, Tennessee, as Covenant Transport of Chattanooga, Tennessee,
won the top award for outstanding van service, and TMC Transportation of
Des Moines, Iowa, was honored for excellent flatbed service.
In presenting the awards, Kevin Anton, President, Alcoa Materials
Management, said: “The Alcoa Tier 1 Core
Carrier Program has been a significant paradigm shift in our
historically broad truckload carrier management philosophy. This program
has delivered strong results to both Alcoa and our core carriers in 2006
and continues to be facilitated on both sides by strong trust and
meeting pre-determined success factors. Alcoa looks forward to continued
business alignment and growth with our Tier 1 Core Carriers as we
continue this program into 2007.”
The Alcoa Core Carrier program was created in 2005 to enable and
facilitate, focused collaboration between Alcoa and its Tier 1 motor
carriers. “By nurturing these strategic
relationships, this partnership has delivered continuous improvements in
safety, capacity, and service across the Alcoa network,”
Anton said.
Selection criteria for carrier performance metrics includes volume
growth, actual delivery data population, published rate turn around
time, tender offer acceptance/expiration percentages.
In addition, specific qualifications are required to participate as an
Alcoa Tier 1 Core Carrier. These include: provide service to multiple
Alcoa businesses; cost competitive; meets Alcoa business performance
expectations, i.e., pickup, delivery and safety; reconcile loss & damage
claims and transmit advance shipping notification.
