Alcoa Invests More Than $850,000 in U.S. Universities to Promote Diversity in the Workplace
PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 2005--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that it has invested more than $850,000 in 23 universities across the United States as part of its Campus Partnership Program that supports the company's commitment to build a diverse workforce that exemplifies leadership and excellence.
The grants will support educational initiatives that focus on promoting diversity, gender equity and global perspectives in the fields of business, science, engineering and technology.
"Encouraging a diverse workforce provides companies with the people and skills needed to compete in today's global marketplace," said Rick Williams, director, Staffing and Talent Development. "In order to foster innovation and diverse perspectives, businesses need to have a workforce that includes women, minorities and people with global perspectives. - Texas A&M University - University of Virginia
- Wharton - University of Pennsylvania
The universities were selected for the program based on the quality and breadth of their academic programs as well as the diversity of their student populations. In addition, Alcoa focuses its recruitment efforts at the universities selected for the Campus Partnership Program by maintaining a year-round relationship with the schools through internship fairs, job fairs and information sessions for students.
