Alcoa announced today that William J. O'Rourke, 49, has been elected
vice president Alcoa Business Support Services, a new position at Alcoa.
In this role, Mr. O'Rourke is responsible for various corporate groups
that are focused on customer service, including procurement and
transportation, financial shared services, environment, health and
safety, human resource, and administrative services. Mr. O'Rourke was
previously corporate director, Environment, Health & Safety.
Mr. O'Rourke joined Alcoa in 1975 as a patent attorney. He later left
the company to join Joy Manufacturing Company where he held a variety of
positions including corporate patent counsel, director of corporate
administration, and general manager of a mining machinery parts
business. He returned to Alcoa in 1988. Mr. O'Rourke was named an
assistant officer, Corporate Patent Counsel in 1992, and assistant
general counsel in 1995. One year later, he was named to lead Alcoa's
environment, health and safety organization.
Mr. O'Rourke is a member of the Board of Directors of the Juvenile
Diabetes Association and is a member of the Advisory Board of Duquesne
University's graduate school of Environmental Science and Management. He
is also a member of the Association of Corporate Patent Counsel.
Mr. O'Rourke graduated from John Carroll University in 1970. He received
a Juris Doctor degree from Duquesne University's School of Law in
Pittsburgh in 1975.
Mr. O'Rourke, his wife, Carol, and children, Ryan and Heather, reside in
the Allison Park suburb of Pittsburgh.
