G. John Pizzey Named Group President Alcoa Primary Products
PITTSBURGH--June 26, 2000--
Alcoa announced that G. John Pizzey, 54, has been named Group President
Alcoa Primary Products. He will be responsible for the strategic and
technical management of Alcoa's alumina refineries and primary aluminum
smelters worldwide and associated businesses, such as metal purchasing,
trading and transportation. He had been president of Alcoa World Alumina
and Chemicals, leading Alcoa's global bauxite, alumina and chemicals
activities. He is also a vice president of Alcoa.
A native of Australia, John joined Alcoa in Australia in 1970 in
Melbourne as an applications engineer. He held various sales and product
management positions there until 1986 when he was appointed to the Board
of Alcoa of Australia as executive director, Victorian Operations and
managing director of Portland Smelter Services. In 1994, John moved to
Pittsburgh as president of the bauxite and alumina business unit, then
one year later was named president of the primary metals business unit.
He was elected a vice president of Alcoa in 1996, president Alcoa World
Alumina in 1998 and took on additional responsibility for chemicals in
August 1999.
John is a member of the Board of Directors of the London Metal Exchange.
He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, the
Australian Institute of Management and the Institute of Company
Directors. John holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from
Melbourne University and a Fellowship Diploma of Management from the
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
He and his wife, Betty, reside in the Fox Chapel section of Pittsburgh.
