Alcoa Curtails Production At Longview in Preparation of Sale
PITTSBURGH--February 13, 2001--
Alcoa Inc. announced today that it is curtailing 70,000 metric tons per
year (mtpy) of aluminum smelting production at its 204,000-mtpy
Longview, Wash., facility effective immediately. Power made available
due to the curtailment will be sold back to Bonneville Power
Administration to help meet energy demand in the region.
The decision to curtail production is in preparation for completing the
previously announced sale of Longview to Michigan Avenue Partners. Alcoa
is required to sell an interest in Longview as a condition of the
European Union approval of Alcoa's acquisition of Reynolds Metals
Company. The sale, which was announced last December, is expected to
close before the end of February.
Founded in 1888, Alcoa serves customers worldwide in the aluminum,
packaging, automotive, aerospace, consumer products, construction and
other markets with a wide variety of fabricated and finished products.
