Alcoa Flexible Packaging Wins Silver DuPont Packaging Award for Sure-Peel™ Lidding
Alcoa Flexible Packaging’s Sure-PeelTM Cohesive Lidding was awarded a Silver Packaging Award at DuPont’s Packaging Awards ceremony this past Friday. Alcoa’s Sure-Peel lidding is a patented cohesive peel material that separates seal integrity from actual peel force. This property allows for easier, consistent peels with high burst strength and provides a broader sealing window. The broader sealing window allows Sure-Peel lidding the ability to seal tightly under a wide range of sealing conditions, including product contamination in the seal area. The broader sealing window also expands the product applications of this extrusion-mounted specification to markets that have fluctuating packaging machinery sealing parameters. Sure-Peel lidding can now be utilized on salsa, hot fill apple juice, tomato sauce and garlic butter, since the structure is more forgiving. Sure-Peel lidding, a 1.5 mil Foil/DuPont Nucrel® Resin/1 mil patented film structure, is manufactured at Alcoa’s Bellwood Printing Plant in Richmond, Virginia. Sure-Peel lidding can be rotogravure or flexographically printed, using water-based or solvent ink technology. The Sure-Peel rollstock performs well on lidding converters’ printing and die-cutting equipment. Alcoa’s Sure-Peel lidding can be sealed to PP, PE, and ethylene copolymer containers.
