Alcoa Architectural Products has introduced a series of nine architectural coatings that shift color under different lights when used on the company's Reynobond and Reynolux cladding materials.

PrismFX color-shifting finishes "provide an option for architects who want to enrich their designs with variable color," the company said in a product announcement.

The coatings are available with the company's Reynobond Aluminum Composite Materials (ACM) and Reynolux profile materials, flat sheet and coil.

Green, Violet and Copper

“PrismFX finishes can give your building a look as dynamic as your design,” said George Rosado, commercial director for Alcoa Architectural Products.

“The coating creates subtle color shifts as lighting conditions change throughout the day. A building that appears green, blue or silver in the morning can shift to copper, violet or gold in the afternoon.”

PrismFX high-performance Duragloss 5000 coatings are designed to withstand the corrosive effects of saltwater, intense UV exposure and extreme temperature shifts without warping, cracking or fading, "so there are no geographical limitations on where they can be used," the company says.

Garage Accents

The manufacturer recommends PrismFX finishes for decorative or "attention-grabbing" architectural elements.

For example, a customized PrismFX finish was recently used on 4,200 accent panels at the new Terminal 3 Parking Garage at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, NV, "to mark the locations of the pedestrian bridges connecting it to the terminal," thus "calling attention to important egress," the manufacturer said.

Norcross, GA-based Alcoa Architectural Products is a global manufacturer of exterior and interior cladding for commercial construction. AAP is a division of Alcoa, the world's top producer of primary and fabricated aluminum.
