Marcos R. Ramos
President, Global Primary Products

Marcos R. Ramos was named President of Alcoa’s Global Primary Products businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean in October 2011.  He manages the mining and refining and smelting operations in Brazil, Jamaica and Suriname as well as Alcoa’s businesses, energy-generating assets, and government and community relations in South America. 

A year ago, Marco was appointed President of Alcoa Europe while maintaining his role as head of Global Primary Products Europe, based in Geneva, Switzerland.  As President Alcoa Europe, Marcos had overall responsibility for coordinating the activities of Alcoa’s nearly 50 locations throughout the nation. He also supervised Alcoa’s smelters and refinery in Iceland, Italy, Norway and Spain.

A native of Brazil, Marcos joined Alcoa Aluminio in Brazil in 1984, and later became smelter operational and technology director at Elkem Aluminium NS in Norway, when Alcoa and Orkla were partners in the facility.  Alcoa is now the sole owner of the operation.  In 2003, he became plant manager for Alcoa’s San Ciprián, Spain plant, and two years later was named manufacturing director, Primary Products Europe. In 2007, Marcos was appointed President of Global Primary Products in Europe and in 2010 took on additional responsibilities as President of Alcoa Europe.
 
He earned a bachelor degree in Engineering from Escola de Minas Ouro Preto and a master’s degree in Production Management from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, both located in Brazil.  He is married and has three children.
