Michael T. Barriere
Vice President, Human Resources New York, New York
Mike Barriere is Vice President, Human Resources for Alcoa, responsible for supporting 61,000 people in 31 countries. He oversees Alcoa's human resource management functions including benefits and compensation, labor relations, diversity and inclusion, talent management and recruitment. He is also a member of the Alcoa Executive Council, the senior leadership group that sets strategy for the company. Mike has more than 20 years experience in Human Resources. He joined Alcoa in 2011 as Chief Talent Officer, with oversight for Alcoa’s global talent initiatives, including performance management, succession planning, leadership development, executive staffing and employee engagement programs. Before coming to Alcoa, he held executive human resource positions for New York Life Insurance and Citigroup. As senior vice president, Human Resources at New York Life Insurance, Mike established HR centers of expertise in Talent Management, Recruiting, Diversity and Compensation. During the six years he worked at Citigroup, Mike led a global HR team covering Citigroup businesses in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the U.S. For several years starting in 1995, Mike had his own consultancy business providing corporate clients, including PepsiCo and AT&T, with training evaluation and leadership development processes. Before becoming an HR specialist, Mike was a system design engineer for Grumman Aerospace Corporation and a research scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He also was an assistant professor of Organizational Psychology at Hofstra University from 1997-2002. Mike has a PhD in industrial psychology from Hofstra University, with a focus on employee engagement and leadership. He also obtained a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science and MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Hofstra. In 2008, he completed his MBA at The Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
