Kurt Waldo was promoted to Alcoa’s Chief Legal and Compliance Officer in December 2011 and was elected an executive vice president of the company one month later.  Kurt has overall responsibility for Alcoa’s legal and compliance matters globally.  Alcoa has 61,000 employees in 31 countries. He is also a member of the Alcoa Executive Council, the senior leadership group that sets strategic direction for the corporation.
 
Kurt was elected vice president and general counsel for Alcoa in 2008.  In this role, he was responsible for leading the global legal team, crafting the company’s legal strategies, enabling business transactions and managing internal and external legal resources.
 
Kurt joined Alcoa in Pittsburgh in 1980, shortly after graduating with a law degree from Case Western Reserve University, Ohio.  He served as European Regional Counsel from 1987 to 1991 based in Lausanne, Switzerland.  During this period, Kurt was a key contributor to Alcoa’s Europe acquisitions, including Köfém in Hungary and Inespal in Spain, as well as providing general law services across Europe.  He returned to Pittsburgh as senior counsel in 1991, primarily leading the M&A practice area.  In 1999 he was elected assistant general counsel, followed by appointment as deputy general counsel in 2007 with responsibility for the antitrust and merger, acquisition and divestiture practice areas.
 
Kurt obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1977 from Pennsylvania State University.
