Klaus Kleinfeld
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
New York, New York

Klaus Kleinfeld is chairman and chief executive officer of Alcoa.  He joined the company in 2007 as president and chief operating officer, and seven months later assumed CEO responsibilities.  He has served on Alcoa's board of directors since 2003 and was named chairman in April 2010.

Alcoa is a world leader in the production and management of a highly sustainable product:  aluminum.  Nearly 75% of the aluminum ever produced since 1888 is still in use today.  The company has been a technology leader since its beginning, providing more than 90% of the aluminum alloys used in aircraft and space flight; helping make automobiles lighter and reducing their emissions without compromising safety or performance; manufacturing sheet that created the ultimate recyclable container -- the aluminum beverage can; and providing building and construction industry materials that help advance the green building movement. In addition to serving customers in these markets, Alcoa also markets wheels, fastening systems, precision and investment castings, and building systems.  The company has 60,000 employees in 30 countries and reported revenue of $23.0 billion in fiscal year 2013.

Before Alcoa, Mr. Kleinfeld had a 20-year career with Siemens, the global electronics and industrial conglomerate, based in the U.S. and Germany, where he served as chief executive officer of Siemens AG starting in 2005.  During his tenure, Mr. Kleinfeld presided over a dramatic transformation of the company, reshaping the company's portfolio around three high-growth areas, resulting in an increase of revenues and a near doubling of market capitalization.  Prior to his service on the Managing Board of Siemens AG, Mr. Kleinfeld was president and chief executive officer of the U.S. subsidiary, Siemens Corporation, which represents the company’s largest region.

In addition to serving on Alcoa's board, he is a member of the Supervisory Board of Bayer AG and the Board of Directors of Morgan Stanley. In 2009, Mr. Kleinfeld was appointed Chairman of the U.S.-Russia Business Council (USRBC), which is dedicated to promoting trade and investment between the United States and Russia.  He is a member of the Brookings Institution Board of Trustees, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the World Economic Forum USA.

Mr. Kleinfeld was born in Bremen, Germany, and educated at the University of Goettingen and University of Wuerzburg, both in Germany.  He holds a PhD in strategic management and a master's degree in business administration.  In his leisure time, he enjoys skiing, running, tennis and the arts.  Mr. Kleinfeld and his wife reside in New York and have two children.
