This technical paper reviews specifications covering the use of aluminum in passenger-carrying railway vehicles. The suggested specifications on the use of aluminum may be used in their entirety, or in portions, for the type of vehicle being purchased. The paper reviews recommended aluminum alloys, design stresses, fabrication, joining, painting/protection/coating of aluminum, finishing of aluminum, and welding.
