Rockdale, Texas 2011
Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations sponsored a Green Works Sustainability Event at its Sandow Mine wildlife area in April. One event was the planting of 200 seedlings by a local Boy Scout troop at this wetland restoration site. An additional 100 trees, which included elm, cypress, and oak, were given to the employees, students and community members who participated in the event.
In October during Alcoa’s Month of Service, the location gave away 1,500 oak trees to attendees at the Rockdale Annual Fair. A week later, Alcoa volunteers and retirees helped plant six oak trees in a park and picnic area being constructed at the Rockdale Depot Museum, earning the museum a US$1,500 grant from Alcoa Foundation.
