Itajubá, Brazil

In celebration of Tree Day, AFL do Brasil held its first AFL Ecological Walk on September 20, 2003. About 80 employees and family members walked seven kilometers (4.3 miles) on a country road outside Itajubá, planting tree seedlings along the way. The trees, selected because they are natural vegetation from the Itajubá region, were given to the local Alcoa employees as part of the Ten Million Trees project.

In the following days, AFL do Brasil promoted environmental education to students from five public elementary schools through lectures and plant visits. In addition, about 200 adolescents participated in a writing contest.
