Harderwijk, The Netherlands

On April 7, 2004, nine elementary schools in Harderwijk planted trees as part of Alcoa's Ten Million Trees project.

Together with the local government and a regional environmental education institution, Harderwijk's Ten Million Trees team invited the local schools to do a special project on trees. All participating schools received a tree, and the school with the best tree exhibit earned a guided tour of an area forest.

Local government representatives, the winning schoolchildren, and local press were on hand as Harderwijk Location Manager John van den Nieuwelaar planted the first tree at the winning Het Baken elementary school.
