Wagerup 2010

The Operating Centre 2 crew from Alcoa’s Wagerup Refinery planted 1,200 indigenous trees and shrubs at nearby Lake Balga during the facility’s Environment Safety and Development Day on June 29.

Lake Balga is a seasonally inundated wetland that, along with its surrounding area, provides fauna habitat, linkages and buffering to protect the existing bushland to the north, which contains three state and federally protected floral communities that are considered threatened. Alcoa employees and three community groups have been involved in the area’s restoration since 2008.
