Portland 2004

Alcoa Portland Aluminium employees, in partnership with eight community organizations and children from 10 local schools, participated in a tree planting event to celebrate National Tree Day in July 2004.

More than 140 volunteers planted approximately 5,000 trees, shrubs, and native grasses—grown at Portland Aluminium's native plant nursery—at the local Fawthrop Lagoon. The project is aimed at increasing the biodiversity of one of the lagoon's large islands.

The facility gave away an additional 3,500 trees to employees and community groups in 2004.
