Inner Mongolia's Lost Water
Keith Williams (Alcoa, Tennessee, USA) and Serge Martineau (Deschambault, Canada) will help scientists discover why China's massive Gobi Desert is growing at an alarming rate and where the water is going. The team will use basic but effective techniques to collect water samples at wells and areas suspected of being natural water-settlement sinks as part of a baseline survey to uncover both the hydrologic history of the region and a "lost" water source. July 25-August 13
