Mel Fiel (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) and Maryann Thorp (Anglesea, Australia) journey to Iceland to assist Drs. Andy Russell (University of Newcastle), Fiona Tweed (Staffordshire University), Philip Marren (University of the Witwatersrand), and Matthew Roberts (Iceland Meteorological Office). The scientists are leading Earthwatch teams into the vast glaciated landscapes near Skaftafell National Park to document evidence of past jökulhlaupsthe floods that occur when a volcano erupts under an ice cap and melts the ice. August 2-16
