Fast Facts on Alcoa Foundation
- Established in 1952 to invest in improving the quality of life in Alcoa communities worldwide.
- As of September 30, 2002 the Foundation's asset base totaled more than $344 million.
- In 2001, combined giving for Alcoa and Alcoa Foundation
totaled more than $52 million. The Foundation's grantmaking
totaled $21.3 million compared to $20.1 million in 2000.
In addition, the Foundation reported additional grants in
2001 of $197,250 from Alcoa-Alumax Foundation, a separate
entity that Alcoa Foundation has managed since Alcoa's acquisition
of Alumax in 1999, and contributions of $461,701 from Instituto
Cultural e Filantropico Alcoa, a separate Brazil-based foundation.
Alcoa's corporate contributions totaled approximately $13
million in grants and $18 million in one-time gifts related
to real estate, including the donation of the former Reynolds
Metals headquarters building in Richmond, Virginia. to the
University of Richmond, and the endowment of the Regional
Enterprise Tower, Alcoa's former headquarters building in
Pittsburgh.
- In 2001, awarded grants to more than 2,000 organizations in 26 countries.
- Funds programs in five Areas of Excellence which support sustainability, workforce development, community health, safety and nonprofit effectiveness.
- Acts as a global resource to local needs in Alcoa communities,
through the on-the-ground perspective of Alcoa Business
Unit Lead Teams who work with more than 200 Alcoa location
grant contacts around the world.
