Alcoa Employees Plant 75,000 Trees during Third Annual Green Works
Alcoa Foundation today announced that during the Company’s third annual Green Works campaign, Alcoa employees around the world collectively planted 75,000 trees.
The two-month global volunteering initiative was created to support the Company’s environmental programs and celebrate international environmental holidays like Arbor Day, Earth Day and World Environment Day.
From April 21 to June 21, nearly 15,000 Alcoa employees joined together with colleagues, families, friends and community members to reduce their carbon footprint, recycle to save energy and plant trees to replenish the earth.
2013 Green Works Highlights
- Planted 75,000 trees to support Alcoa’s Ten Million Trees campaign
- Recycled 45,000 pounds of electronics, preventing toxic materials from entering landfills
- Led more than 100 workshops about recycling, water conservation and energy efficiency
- Rehabilitated 50 rivers, parks and recreation areas
In celebration of Green Works and Alcoa’s 125th anniversary, Alcoa Foundation hosted an employee photo contest to recognize and reward volunteers. Totaling US$125,000, 10 winners will each receive a US$12,500 grant from Alcoa Foundation to their favorite charity. View the winning photos.
