Alcoa Foundation affirms continued commitment to community

In recent months, the volatile economic climate has significantly changed Alcoa’s business and considerably impacted those around us.
In many places, our communities are facing greater hardship and future uncertainty, while our partners and grantees are experiencing greater demands with fewer resources to meet them.
We too have been impacted by the external environment, with the decline in our endowment base significantly reducing our grant making capacity.
Despite these challenges, Alcoa Foundation would like to reassure our partners, grantees, employees, and stakeholders of our steadfast commitment to Alcoa communities.
For 57 years Alcoa Foundation has maintained one core focus – to be responsive to the needs of our neighbors and build partnerships that strengthen communities and change lives for the better.
Today that focus remains unchanged.
To ensure our continued ability to deliver this commitment, we are implementing a series of actions designed to ensure our sustained capacity to support our communities amidst the current turbulence:
Working closely with our regional teams and community partners to assess the local impact of the global downturn, and target our resources to areas of priority need.
- Further deepening and leveraging our relationships with organizations that are making a lasting contribution to Alcoa communities;
- Aligning our employee volunteer program more closely with our grant making strategy to harness the full extent of our organizational resources for community benefit.
- Evaluating our grants, programs and partnerships to ensure resources are targeted to delivering the greatest positive community impact.
From the delivery of immediate basic necessities, to building capacity for future resilience, Alcoa Foundation is committed to supporting Alcoa communities as they adapt to the changing world around them and work to address a wide range of emerging social challenges.
The present economic climate presents great challenges for us all. However amidst these difficult times we see an opportunity to listen to our communities, refocus our resources, and evolve our organization, to ensure sustained positive social outcomes into the future.
