Alcoans in Motion

Getting fit and raising money for charity at the same time. Breaking a sweat never felt so good!

That’s how much we donate when Alcoa employees team for marathons, walkathons and other fitness events.

Some of the most popular ways to donate time, effort – and maybe a few pounds – are marathons, walkathons, bike rides, and other fitness events. Alcoans in Motion is our way of supporting Alcoa employees who participate and raise funds. We’ve structured the program to get as many people involved as possible.

  • Teams must have a minimum of five Alcoa employees
  • Friends and family are encouraged to participate
  • Alcoa Foundation will contribute $2,500 to the charity

Alcoans in Motion has been very successful. Take a look at some of the regional highlights to see how hard our team members have worked… and what a powerful impact they’ve had.

More than 11,000 people entered the Run Geelong event, including 68 Alcoa runners and walkers who took part in a challenging 12km or 6km course. The event helped raise more than AUD$450,000 for the redevelopment of the Geelong Hospital Children’s Ward.

The second edition of Alcoa’s Vélo Énergie cycling event saw nine employees from Québec’s Bécancour and Deschambault smelters, as well as six members of these communities, bicycle more than 260 kilometers for the cause of the children.

Bohai, Kunshan, Shanghai, and Suzhou employees participated in several activities – bowling, walking race, dancing, hiking and dragon boat racing.

Germany – 35 AFS Aichach employees hiked to the “friends-of-nature-house” 5 kilometers away from the Alcoa facility. St. Afra Hospice received a US$2,500 grant to fund medical equipment for a new ambulant palliative group.

Nearly 200 members of Jamalco’s workforce and representatives from several companies in Clarendon got physical for charity during Jamalco’s inaugural AIM fundraiser. The event raised nearly JMD$500,000 to improve services and security at May Pen Hospital.
