Addressing local needs, tackling global challenges

Alcoa Foundation works alongside Alcoa and the communities in which we operate to partner on issues and projects that address priority local challenges and contribute to the sustainability of each community where our business has a presence.

Grounded in the Alcoa Community Framework, our approach delivers strong portfolios of social investments that address both local community development goals and contribute to broader global challenges, particularly related to environmental sustainability and climate change. 

Alcoa Foundation has contributed more than $535 million to Alcoa communities since 1952, and has been a key partner in new Alcoa growth communities around the world.

In 2009, our combined giving totaled over US$35 million. Alcoa Foundation provided more than US$16 million in grants in 27 countries where Alcoa operates, with Alcoa and Alcoa-related foundations contributing another US$19 million to support projects and partnerships with NGOs around the world. Alcoa employees continue to play an active role in strengthening social fabric of their communities, contributing over 650,000 volunteer hours in 2009.
