Month of Service 2003 Events
Taking Action is a global initiative involving thousands of Alcoa volunteers from more than 20 countries. With a theme last year of Conservation and Sustainability, Alcoans went to work in their communities cleaning up watersheds, planting native trees and other vegetation, educating children about hazardous waste and recycling, and coaxing wildlife back to their native habitats. Thousands of volunteer hours were logged by these Alcoans in the communities they call home. Teaching children about the environment
Lima
Children in Lima will gain a new appreciation for the world around them with the help of a team of Alcoans who will paint a mural in their school and present a special class on conservation and sustainability.

Brightening surroundings for the terminally ill
APODACA
Volunteers are helping to make the end of life more comfortable for terminally ill patients at Casa Simón de Betania. Alcoans will paint, clean the building and spruce up the children’s recreational area.

Seeding environmental ideas and native trees
Pocos de Caldas
Alcoans in Pocos de Caldas will make presentations in the community on the topics of environmental preservation and sustainability including ideas for waste recycling, and ‘off-the-job’ health and safety issues.
