Canada Sustainability Advisory Committee
Comprising eight stakeholders representing key perspectives and five Alcoa representatives, the Sustainability Advisory Committee for Alcoa's Primary Metals Canada operations is charged with advising the company on how best to integrate sustainability to meet the expectations of society.
Following committee meetings and a community workshop in 2006, Alcoa Canada developed the following action items to respond to the community input:
- Develop a policy on community support that integrates sustainability and environmental aspects;
- Formalize an approach of sustainability leadership based on actions and partnerships;
- Produce or obtain a socio-economic needs evaluation for each community in which Alcoa operates;
- Review results of an Alcoa perception survey with stakeholders; and
- Integrate the community support policy in Alcoa Canada's communication plan.
In January 2007, the committee began exploring local purchasing and direct/indirect job creation.
