Frickenhausen kindergarten benefits from Alcoa Week of Service
Playing equipment for the kindergarten
The kindergarten "Auf dem Berg" in the community of Frickenhausen was supported by AFL Alcoa Fujikura GmbH.
FRICKENHAUSEN. The international automotive supplier Alcoa Fujikura - with its European headquarter in Frickenhausen - had their second "Week of Service" worldwide. Alcoa had asked its 350 locations in 40 countries to participate at the program "Taking Action - Alcoas Worldwide Week of Community Service" at the beginning of October.

The location in Frickenhausen also actively participated. This year the kindergarten "Auf dem Berg" in Frickenhausen profited. The Alcoa Foundation donated a playing equipment and a "chimney" which is used as climbing net.
For the preparation and the actual installation of the playing equipment - which includes a slide and several possibilities to climb - employees from Alcoa volunteered. Due to the great interest and commitment of the employees, they had to take turns. "They were released from work by the company for two hours and for the rest of the time they dedicated their free time. This is a way to show charitable work in the communities where the employees and their families are living", Martin Freiberger, President of the headquarter in Frickenhausen said. "We are very happy and would like to thank you for this project which also eases the burden of the local authorities", according to Heidrun Neubrander, who is responsible for the kindergarten in the community. The support of the neighborhood in which the AFL employees are living and working is part of the company's philosophy. The Alcoa Foundation would like to be considered as worldwide resource to improve the quality of life in the communities in which the company has subsidiaries. In the past years hundreds of charitable organizations were supported worldwide. The grants amounted to about 20 Million US$ per year. The Alcoa Foundation would like to be effective in the communities in which the company has locations. The employees can offer participation at local projects to their management. There are five different areas of excellence that can be supported: Conservation and sustainability, safe and healthy children and families, global education and workplace skills, skills today for tomorrow, business and community partnerships.
