Alcoa Foundation Donates US$30,000 to Mörike School
Re-published from the Nürtinger Zeitung
AFL Automotive Europe in Frickenhausen, Germany presented a US$30,000 check to the Mörike Primary and Junior High School for a “Teach and Learn Camp” that would prepare students to enter the job market.
In addition to teaching students the process of applying for jobs, the program will help students learn how to work in teams, how to make a professional appearance, and how to recognize their own strengths. Students will be eligible for the program the year before they graduate.
The idea for the program was formed when several parents of students in the Mörike School who also work at AFL Automotive informed management that their children were having difficulties finding apprenticeships. “We made an application to the Alcoa Foundation and described the project,” said Ulrich Salomon, managing director of the Frickenhausen plant. “The foundation gave its approval and granted permission for a donation of $30,000.”
Representatives of the Upper Supervisory School Authority, the State Board of Education, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry were present at Nurtingen City Hall when Martin Freiberger, senior vice president of AFL Automotive Europe, presented the check to Lord Mayor Otmar Heinrich and Ulrich Storz, director of the Mörike School.
Lord Mayor Heirich expressed his appreciation for the donation and described Alcoa’s efforts as a “good example” that other companies could emulate.
