Partnerships & Programs

At Alcoa Foundation, we understand the importance of partnerships at many levels when it comes to achieving results. That’s why we fund both local efforts led by Alcoa employees around the world through Location Grants as well as initiatives by leading global nonprofit organizations through Signature Grants.

Location Grants
At the beginning of each year, Alcoa Foundation allocates a specific amount of its funding to Alcoa locations based on local headcount. Alcoa Foundation staff work closely with a designated point of contact at each Alcoa location to craft a meaningful local grantmaking strategy based on the Foundation’s key focus areas (below) while also incorporating local community priorities.

Signature Grants
The balance of Alcoa Foundation awards are granted based on the following program guidelines to strategically develop global signature partnerships and programs that make a meaningful impact in our key focus areas:

  • Climate Change
Promoting the prevention of and resilience to climate change through research, education, and sustainable solutions for communities to effectively manage and reduce the impacts of a changing climate
  • Biodiversity
Restoring and preserving biodiversity around the world

We are outcome focused and whenever possible use quantitative metrics to track progress towards goals.

Our grants mainly support communities where Alcoa has a presence, including Western Australia, Brazil, Canada, Iceland, Norway, Spain and a number of locations across the United States. For a full map of Alcoa locations, click here.
