Installation Sequence - Interference Fit

Both the pull-in and installation sequences each occur in less than two seconds.

Step 1 Pull-In of Fastener Into Interference Fit
1. Operator Action

The pin is inserted from one side of the work surface through the prepared interference fit hole. The HUCK® installation tool with pull-in nose assembly is then placed over the pintail.

What Happens

The HUCK® installation tool with pull-in nose assembly is in position to pull the pin into the prepared interference fit hole.
2. Operator Action

To complete the pull-in cycle the HUCK® installation tool is activated by depressing the trigger and then released to remove the installation tool.

What Happens

The inner collet retracts engaging the chuck jaws onto the pintail. Its rearward motion draws the pin into the prepared interference fit hole seating the head against the work surface. After deactivation the inner collet returns to its forward position disengaging the pintail (not shown).


Step 2 Installation of Fastener Into Work Surface
3. Operator Action

The collar is placed over the pintail followed by the HUCK® installation tool with nose assembly.

What Happens

The HUCK® installation tool with nose assembly is in position to complete the installation of the collar onto the pin.
4. Operator Action

The HUCK® installation tool is activated by depressing the trigger.

What Happens

The inner collet retracts engaging the chuck jaws on the pintail until all slack is taken up. At this point the outer anvil moves forward to the work surface closing any gaps in the joint and swaging the collar material into the pin’s locking grooves. This provides a permanent lock between the pin and collar.
5. Operator Action

The HUCK® installation tool trigger continues to be depressed.

What Happens

The outer anvil continues to move forward to the work surface completing the swaging of collar material into the pin’s locking grooves. This action elongates the collar, stretches the pin and compresses the joint. The result is a high and consistent clamp-up of the joint.
6. Operator Action

The HUCK® installation tool trigger continues to be depressed until the pintail is separated from the pin at which point it releases and  completes the installation cycle.

What Happens

When collar swaging is complete, the tool continues to pull until the pintail separates from the now fully installed fastener. After the tool trigger is released the tool nose assembly is pushed off the installed fastener by the inner collet's forward ejection motion.
