Alcoa Fastening Systems technical specialists covered principles of joint design, material selection and fastener lubricants among other topics such as fluid fitting design, selection and installation, ultrasonic bolt strain measurement, and single crystal materials with application for advance high temperature fasteners. Other presenters were from PFW Technologies, Incotech and Alcoa Howmet Castings.
After the symposium, participants toured Alcoa Technical Center (ATC) near Pittsburgh to view the surface engineering facility, mechanical testing labs, and casting and material conductivity labs. ATC is Alcoa’s largest research, development and engineering facility.
