Alcoa's DixieWire Achieves Safety Milestone of 1 Million Hours Without a Lost Workday

Nashville – May 4, 2006 – Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announces that DixieWire, a division of AFL Automotive, in West Nashville achieved a significant safety milestone of working 1 million hours without a Lost Work Day (LWD).

“Our employees have demonstrated that they are dedicated to making safety their highest priority, and they have proven that zero work-related injuries and illnesses is possible,” said Jeff Barksdale, plant manager.

Alcoa has a long-standing commitment to zero work-related injuries and illnesses, consistently achieving benchmark performance among world-wide industrial companies. Alcoa’s LWD rate for 2006 stands at .074, and 99.9 percent of Alcoa employees had zero LWD during the 12-month period ending April 30, 2006.

DixieWire in Nashville operates out of two buildings located within a mile of each other in West Nashville. As part of DixieWire’s safety milestone celebration, the DixieWire facility on Morrow Road celebrated operating 14 years without a LWD.
