DixieWire Overview
Richard Douglas started DixieWire in 1955 with one wire line and a used braider. During the early 60’s, the first thermoplastic extruder for the production of PVC insulated wire was installed. By the early 1970’s, DixieWire had become a major supplier to heating, air conditioning, water heating and automotive harness manufacturers. During the 70’s, two more plastic extruders and two more CV lines were added, giving DixieWire the capability to run cross-link compounds. In 1974, DixieWire was acquired by Alcoa. With the backing of a large parent company, DixieWire continued its rapid US growth throughout the 80’s and early 90’s. By the end of the 90’s, operations had expanded internationally. DixieWire has since continued to expand its PVC, cross-link, and convolute capabilities to multiple manufacturing plants and will continue to develop innovative product, management, and systems solutions to ensure consistent and cost effective delivery to our customers.
Today, DixieWire employs the most advanced process, engineering, and systems technologies to insure the highest levels of delivery, quality, and services to our customers. Our lean manufacturing efforts focus us towards the continuous pursuit of excellence in our process and manufacturing operations. Our development and testing capabilities allow us to meet and exceed automotive and consumer wire standards. Our integrated ERP system, bar coding, and EDI capabilities permit us to rapidly respond to today’s dynamic and demanding business environment. Combined with our dedication, these capabilities add up to a world-class wire organization.
