Specter Announces Defense Funding at ATC

U.S. Senator Arlen Specter visited Alcoa Technical Center to announce $4 million in federal funding in the FY2008 Department of Defense Appropriations Bill for Alcoa’s project to improve the survivability and performance of tactical wheeled vehicle structures. Senator Specter, the longest serving senator from Pennsylvania, toured the surface analysis lab and the Innovation Showroom as part of a briefing by Dr. Jimmy Williams, director, Defense. The tour highlighted Alcoa’s core competencies as well as the company’s technical breadth and depth as it relates to design, manufacturing and materials technologies. Senator Specter has been a strong advocate of ATC's participation in the development of several defense initiatives. His support has led to significant Alcoa roles in tactical vehicles, combat aircraft and naval platforms. State Rep. John Pallone, a member of ATC's Community Advisory Board, accompanied Senator Specter during the tour.
