M1 Abrams Tank Wheels
Alcoa Forged and Cast products has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract to manufacture aluminum forged wheels for the U.S. Army's M1 Abrams Tank. The wheels (28 per tank) will allow the 68-ton tank to maneuver through the most geographically challenging conditions.
According to Joe Haniford, vice president and general manager, Alcoa Forged and Cast Products, Alcoa won this important contract by providing expertise in product design, development and engineering to a key customer and partner. "Our high-strength, light weight and durable forged wheel meet the Army's specifications and delivery requirements."
Approximately 25,000 wheels will be made for the M1 Abrams tank per year over the term of the contract.
