Alcoa's Army Lightweight Structures Initiative (ALSI)
Cost effective weight reduction (up to 50%) for Army ground vehicles
Alcoa’s extensive design and manufacturing experience in the automotive industry is being leveraged to drive down costs in military ground vehicles. Alcoa has demonstrated that aluminum structures can reduce weight and cost while improving the performance of commercial vehicles. Currently, Alcoa is working with General Dynamics, United Defense, Stewart and Stevenson, Oshkosh Truck Corporation and other manufacturers to cost effectively reduce weight by 25 to 50% in target vehicles.
The objective of Alcoa’s Army Lightweight Structures Initiative (ALSI) is to integrate Alcoa’s proven design methodology, materials expertise and manufacturing capabilities into the design of new and legacy military ground vehicles.
