Alcoa European Mill Products Customer LAG Showcases First 5182 RTSG1 Bright Tanker on 'expo PetroTrans 2006'

The first full aluminium bright tanker in Europe was revealed recently by Alcoa European Mill Products customer LAG on the 'expo PetroTrans 2006' in Kassel, Germany. An international audience from trade, industry and various associations was present to witness this unique tanker being presented. The bright 5182 RTSG1 material was developed in a joint cooperation between Alcoa European Mill Products (EMP) and LAG Trailers in Belgium. The shiny aluminium surface of the tanker does not only add an aesthetic advantage. Expensive painting and re-painting during the vehicle life cycle becomes redundant. Customers benefit from cost savings and a 50 - 100 kg lighter vehicle with an increased pay-load. Two of these tankers have already been sold to international transport company Schenk and will mobilise heavy duty for a major oil company in the Benelux area.

LAG Trailers is a leading company for tankers in Europe and develops custom-made transport solutions. Based on an existing Flat Rolled Products (FRP) technology from the Alcoa Davenport facility in the USA, the joint development process started almost two years ago. Early 2004 the first proof shates with Davenport material were shipped to LAG for the production of a demo tank container. After one year of road testing Alcoa EMP developed a bright version of 5182 RTSG1 and supplied the first shates out of the Fusina plant in Italy. With these shates LAG built two bright tankers, which are fully compliant with the European ADR standards (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road), and showcased one of them to the public in Kassel.

The trade fair 'expo PetroTrans 2006' is specialised on logistics, transportation and handling in the petroleum industry. The eye catching tanker, presented with Alcoa Dura-Bright Wheels, drew a lot of attention from the international audience and will draw a lot more once roaming the European roads.
