Alcoa China Releases 2011 Sustainability Report

Beijing--Alcoa China today published its 2011 Sustainability Report detailing the progresses the company has made in the areas of regional strategic growth, EHS, lightweight solutions and investment in climate protection research. It is the 7th year in a row since Alcoa China produced the first report in 2005.
"Sustainability is not a catalog of processes, nor merely a philosophy at Alcoa," said Chairman and CEO Klaus Kleinfeld upon releasing Alcoa’s 2011 sustainability report. "Rather, it is part of everything we do."
As the largest multinational investor in China aluminum industry, Alcoa has been actively promoting the sustainable development of the industry through working with various external stakeholders including clients, suppliers as well as industry authorities and governmental bodies.
“China aluminum industry is in a critical stage of transformation to a cleaner and sustainable future. Alcoa is committed to joining in the driving forces by sharing our best operating knowledge and technologies,” said Jinya Chen, Alcoa Vice President and Asia Pacific President.
Significant progress highlighted in the report includes:
Health and Safety: Alcoa’s Asia region received the Occupational Excellence Achievement Award from the National Safety Council

Strategic Growth: Alcoa signed a MOU and finalized a joint venture contract with China Power Investment Corporation to explore a broad range of aluminum and energy projects in China and overseas with a focus on high-end fabricated aluminum products in China.
Lightweight solutions: Alcoa developed an all-aluminum bus space frame for Shenzhen BYD Auto Co. Ltd. also incorporating Alcoa forged aluminum wheels and fasteners.

Climate Protection: Alcoa Foundation funded two research projects on emissions reduction in China helping building the policy framework.
In addition, Alcoa China has also achieved new record in work safety. For two consecutive years in a row, Alcoa China has zero employee fatalities.
