New Health and Safety Record at ABI: 4 years without OSHA Recordable for the Carbon Sector

Bécancour, February 26th 2009 – One of the three production sectors of the smelter Aluminerie de Bécancour Inc (ABI), with 150 workers, broke a new Health and Safety Record. On February 24th, the Carbon team of this plant located in Quebec province (Canada) made its 4th year without an OSHA Recordable, a remarkable realization.

For Martin Brière, Carbon and Maintenance Director, this realization illustrates the high security level at ABI. “On a daily basis, we optimize our own security by respecting the processes and wearing the appropriate protection equipment.” We must note that the Electrolysis sector made three years without an OSHA Recordable on January 6th and that, overall, ABI reduced its OSHA Recordables by 106% since 2001.

“We work in an industry that implies many risks. So, we are very proud to say that we work in one of the safest plant” concludes Mr. Brière.
