The Alcoa Smelter In Baie-Comeau Makes It Possible To Publish The Work Le Pays Dans Le Pays

Baie-Comeau, May 14, 2007 – The Alcoa smelter in Baie-Comeau announced today that it is making a financial contribution of $60,000 for the production of the magnificent work Le Pays dans le pays (The country in the country) by author Francine Chicoine and photographer Serge Jauvin, both of whom are from the Côte-Nord region.

“When you've been in a part of the country for 50 years, you've had the time to appreciate its beauty, uniqueness and grandeur. But when someone succeeds in revealing to you even more, that's amazing. People will soon be able to admire what Madame Chicoine and Monsieur Jauvin have managed to do in their magnificent work. It's what attracted us when the project was presented to us.”

These are the words Pierre Morin used to explain what persuaded the Alcoa smelter in Baie-Comeau to participate in the publication project. “The Côte-Nord deserves more than a simple footnote,” he stated. “We must all work to make it known in other parts of Québec and the world. It deserves to be discovered and appreciated at its true value, and Le Pays dans le pays will contribute to this.”

The smelter management plans to present copies of the work to distinguished visitors at the plant. This will be a way of showing them our corner of paradise, especially since the texts will be in French, English and Inuktitut.
