Four locations, one sole company!
This initiative will be undertaken, in partnership with their respective ZIP committees, by the employees of Alcoa Canada Primary Metals in Baie-Comeau, Bécancour and Deschambault, as well as in Montréal, where they will be supported by their colleagues from Alcoa Canada, more specifically from Kawneer, Reynolds and Société de Moulages Aéronautiques Alcoa (Howmet). Thus, four great actions will be launched simultaneously to embellish part of the banks of the Saint Lawrence.
Making a difference in our community
“Community involvement is part of the values of the people at Alcoa. We work and we live in a community. Isn’t it only natural then to want to enhance the quality of life in our immediate environment?” explained Jean-Pierre Gilardeau, President of Alcoa Canada. Thus, here and there throughout Québec, many Alcoa employees will act as volunteers this Sunday for the benefit of our beautiful Saint Lawrence River. In Montréal, this ACTION* program plans to bring together roughly 40 volunteers in addition to the participants of the ZIP committee. “We wish to promote and encourage such an initiative for the benefit of the environment, in the hope that it may inspire other initiatives. This gesture is a positive action for the recovery and conservation of the banks in East-End Montréal,” underlined Geneviève Rivard, Project Coordinator for the Jacques-Cartier ZIP committee.
In addition to this important volunteer service day, several other ACTION programs have taken place during the month of October in each of the regions of Québec where Alcoa has its facilities.
.
On October 7, in Bécancour, at Camp Notre-Dame de la Joie in Nicolet, leader François Gaudet and his team redid the landscape of the central area of the vacation camp.
On October 1, in Deschambault, Norman Rhéaume and his team repaired the park-school of the Portneuf Elementary School in Cap-Santé. They inspired Pierre Gosselin’s troops who, in turn, repainted the premises of the school Le Bateau Blanc in Saint-Casimir on October 14.
In Baie-Comeau, Ghyslain Beaudin and a group of work colleagues finished the layout of the backyard of the Centre socioculturel Clarence-Lefrançois in Pointe-Lebel on October 7. They set up a fence around the centre’s outdoor activity facilities. Two weeks later, another group of employees led by René Duperré built a flight simulator for gliders for the air cadets of squadron 654 in Baie-Comeau.
Our warmest thanks go out to all these teams of volunteers who made a real difference in our community!
In addition to the activities planned in Québec this week-end, let us mention that more than 25,000 people are participating in the Alcoa Foundation’s first Worldwide Month of Service. The event is held in October to celebrate and recognize the company’s commitment to volunteer service throughout the world. Activities will take place in over 200 locations where Alcoa is present, that is in 33 countries.
