Alcoa Canada Unveils Aluminum Ingot Bench at Musée de la civilisation de Québec

Alcoa Canada and the Alcoa Foundation recently signed a three-year agreement with the Musée de la civilisation de Québec. To celebrate this innovative new partnership, the President of the Alcoa Foundation, Ms. Meg McDonald, and the President of Alcoa Canada, Mr. Jean-Pierre Gilardeau, unveiled an impressive aluminum ingot, almost eight metres in length, installed on the square of the Musée and serving as a public bench for its visitors. The ingot/bench sports a plaque highlighting the work of Alcoa employees and the story of the ingot-from bauxite to bench! It serves as a most attractive and unique reminder of Alcoa’s contribution to the visitors of the Musée.

Under this new partnership, Alcoa becomes a partner in all of the activities of the museum’s annual program and, in 2008, will be a major partner in the exhibition the Musée will present in the framework of Québec City’s 400th Anniversary celebrations. Alcoa Foundation support will enrich the program of cultural and educational activities designed for children and families visiting the Musée.

The Musée de la civilisation as well as Alcoa and Alcoa Foundation are all winners under this 3-year agreement, Madame Clare Simard , Executive Director of the museum said at the ceremony. “It is with utmost mutual respect that we shared our respective objectives and needs, and designed a customized partnership that rests on flexibility, openness and imagination.

Aluminum is solid, stands the test of time, and has several lives. Likewise, our association will stand the test of time and, I am sure, become a lasting relationship, she added.

This partnership clearly illustrates the fact that Alcoa and the Musée share a common will to initiate and embrace new trends, as they often seek to explore uncharted territory. In short, they have chosen to innovate while involving themselves in their community!
