Baie-Comeau Celebrates 50 Years

The Alcoa Baie-Comeau smelter located in Quebec, Canada, kicked off its 50th birthday celebration with a special flag-raising ceremony attended by local stakeholders, officials and employees.

The Alcoa Baie-Comeau smelter located in Quebec, Canada, kicked off its 50th birthday celebration with a special flag-raising ceremony attended by local stakeholders, officials and employees.  It is the first of many events scheduled for this year to commemorate the opening of the plant in 1957.  As part of the flag-raising ceremony, an "honor guard" composed of a group of 10 retirees and 40 active employees, representing the past and the present, escorted two employees – one with 43 years of service and the other with 1-1/2 years of service – who served as flag raisers.  The two flag raisers represented the experience and the new generation of plant employees.  The official 50th anniversary flag will fly proudly over the plant for the remainder of 2007.
