2,000 volunteers in ACTION in our region during Alcoa’s Worldwide Month of Service

Montréal, Monday, October 5, 2009 – During the weekend of October 2, 3 and 4, a total of 10 volunteer services were accomplished by Alcoa employees in different communities of Canada and Iceland. Together, roughly 300 volunteers offered over 1,000 hours of their time to support ten nonprofit organizations. And Alcoa’s Month of Service, which is held every month of October, has only just begun.
The active participation of employees in the Centraide 2009 campaign, the organization of a blood donors’ clinic, the accomplishment of ACTION* programs, the registration in the Bravo!** program, and the recognition of volunteer services offered by Alcoa employees are a few concrete examples of the activities in which over 2,000 employees throughout Canada will take part during the month.
“The Month of Service is in line with our unfailing determination to add true value to what we do. Thanks to our people, their team spirit and their passion, community service has become more than a value at Alcoa: it’s a way of life,” underlines Pierre Morin, President of Alcoa Canada.

*About the ACTION program
The ACTION program (for Alcoans Coming Together In Our Neighborhoods) recognizes the work of employees who join efforts to accomplish projects directly in their community. Nonprofit organizations not only benefit from the work of the volunteers, they also receive a financial contribution of $3,000 from Alcoa.
**About the Bravo! program
The BRAVO! program recognizes the work of employees who devote at least 50 hours per year to a nonprofit organization. It does so by granting to this organization $250 per participating employee.
