Alcoa Canada Partners with the National Environment Show for a Third Consecutive Year!

Montréal, June 13 – Alcoa Canada is proud to be once again a major partner for the third edition of the National Environment Show. The event will take place on next June 13, 14 and 15 in the Old Port of Montréal.

On opening night, June 13, Alcoa Canada and the Regroupement national des conseils régionaux de l’environnement du Québec (RNCREQ) will present the first performance of the forum-play “Acteurs de changement”. The vocation of this participative play is to sensitize and mobilize the visitors with respect to the challenges of sustainable development.

“The play does not provide an answer, but lays the groundwork for discussion leading to a better understanding of our environment, one that is critical to ensuring positive change for our society. It is totally in keeping with the National Environment Show’s objectives in terms of education and awareness,” declared Lise Sylvain, Regional Environment and Sustainability Manager, at Alcoa Canada Primary Metals.

Furthermore, Alcoa requested that Mr. Claude Poudrier, in charge of the Environmental Education and Citizenship program in Québec, present his project Action-Research for Community Problem Solving (AR:CPS), supported by the Alcoa Foundation for the past six years. The project will be presented in the afternoon on Friday, June 13, in the framework of a conference to take place during Alcoa’s Education and Awareness day.

Through these various activities, Alcoa stresses the fact that the environment ranks among its priorities. And that without a doubt, thanks to its intrinsic qualities–namely its low weight and its capacity to be almost infinitely recycled–, aluminum is part of the solution to a greener planet.

In Québec, Alcoa Canada Primary Metals (ACPM) is comprised of the Baie-Comeau, Bécancour and Deschambault smelters, as well as the Bécancour Rod Plant. These four plants have an annual production capacity of over one million metric tons of ingots, castings, billets and aluminum rods. ACPM employs over 3,300 people and its activities generate over $1.5 billion in economic spin-offs annually in the province.
