ALCOA, A BUSINESS OPEN TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Baie-Comeau, May 23, 2007 – Alcoa's Baie-Comeau aluminum smelter announces that it is actively involved in organizing the Conférence sur l’Énergie et le Développement Durable dans l’Industrie de l’Aluminium (Céddi-Al: Conference on Energy and Sustainable Development in the Aluminum Industry), since these topics directly affect the goals towards which all its employees and managers work each year.

Pierre Morin, General Manager of the Baie-Comeau smelter, stated: "Using energy and resources efficiently and optimally, reducing our environmental footprint, protecting the environment, leaving a green legacy to future generations, these are the values that Alcoa wholly espouses and that shape what we do every day. Our industrialized societies, faced with energy constraints and concerns regarding sustainable development and the preservation of the environment, are pushed to innovate in order to maintain economic growth while preserving our natural capital."

Céddi-Al will offer an excellent opportunity to further reflection and to favour exchanges on subjects that are of central concern for citizens, for businesses working in the field of aluminum, and for organizations wishing to develop a vision of the future and to find ways of accomplishing such a vision.

Alcoa shares the concerns of the community. In taking concrete actions and, over the years, in questioning its methods and procedures, the company makes sure that it can properly meet environmental requirements for the well-being of communities.
