In our smelters, there are nine broad risk categories for which safety programs are in place—contractor safety, mobile equipment safety, combustible safety, lock/tag/verify, molten metal safety, confined space entry, electrical safety, fall prevention and machine safeguarding. All of these safety programs fall under the fatality prevention program.
These nine programs help guide our actions and activities to control associated risks. Training, inspection, control and meeting standards are examples of actions that enable us to make our facilities safe. Each program is audited annually and must receive a passing grade year after year.
