2007 Activities Summary
In Québec Alcoa Canada Primary Metals (ACPM) is made up of the Baie-Comeau, Bécancour* and Deschambault smelters, as well as the Bécancour Rod Plant. These four plants, all of which are ISO : 2000 and 14001 certified, have an annual production capacity of over one million metric tons of ingots, castings, billets and aluminum rods. ACPM employs close to 3,307*** people and its activities generate over $1.5 billion*** in economic spin-offs annually in Québec.
In Canada In addition to ACPM’s production of primary aluminum, Alcoa Canada operates processing plants serving the aerospace, automobile, food packaging and construction industries. Its facilities and plants are mainly located in Québec and Ontario.
Around the world Alcoa is the world’s leading producer and manager of primary and fabricated aluminum and alumina facilities. The company is active in all major aspects of the aluminum industry: research and development, mining, refining, smelting, processing and recycling. It also offers its customers a one-stop solution through the capabilities of its various businesses, namely in design, engineering and production.

Recognized approach to sustainability and corporate governance At the 2007 World Economic Forum in Davos, Alcoa was named one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World for the third consecutive year. This ranking was created in 2005 by Corporate Knights Inc., which publishes the world’s most respected magazine on corporate social responsibility.
GovernanceMetrics International® (GMI), an independent global corporate governance ratings agency, attributed Alcoa a total score of 9.5 out of 10 in its 2006 report. The average in the industrial metals sector is 6.5.
Alcoa also received the highest score for ethics in the mines and metallurgy sector by Covalence, a European organization that tracks the ethical reputation of multinationals.
CERES, largest coalition of investors, environmental and public interest organizations in North America, ranked Alcoa the second best U.S.-based corporation in its report on corporate governance and climate change.
Alcoa has been part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes since 2001.
The company is also a founding member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (UNSCAP), which is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This alliance is made up of major businesses and NGOs seeking to join the U.S. government in slowing down, stopping and reversing global warming. Around the world… In 2007, Alcoa Foundation made 848 grants totaling US$ 28 million to 1,111 organizations in more than 36 countries worldwide.
Every October, Alcoa’s community initiatives multiply exponentially during the Worldwide Month of Community Service. In 2007, volunteer projects mobilized over 15,800 Alcoa employees in 200 communities in 36 countries.
In Québec… In 2007, Alcoa Canada Primary Metals and Alcoa Foundation donated over $2.3 million to Québec communities. No less than 20 group ACTION projects were carried out and over 424 ACPM employees took part in the BRAVO! program that supports individual volunteerism.
